TALLAHASSEE, Fla — Locally owned coffee shop, Argonaut Coffee, has launched the “super soft opening” of their new location at 1123 Thomasville Rd in partnership with Midtown Reader and Jeri’s Midtown Cafe. This book store/bar/coffee shop concept, located in the upstairs space at Midtown Reader, will be celebrating their official grand opening within the next few weeks.
Three months ago, when the news that local cupcakery, Lucy & Leo’s, would be closing next to the bookstore and cafe, Jeri Madden, owner of Jeri’s Midtown Cafe, approached Jason McArthur, Argonaut Coffee owner, about combining the concepts of her cafe’s drinks, Midtown Reader’s books, and Argonaut’s coffee to form a new space. The bar/bookstore/coffee shop concept idea was a hit, and Nov. 8, the idea came to fruition as their “super soft opening” launched.
Over the next few weeks, the space will undergo some cosmetic renovations as additional furniture and machines arrive. Their current hours of operation are 10:00 a.m.-6:00.pm. Tuesday-Saturday and 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Sundays.
The food menu includes classic biscuits with blueberry whipping cream, charcuterie and cheese boards, croissants, spicy pimento cheese tea sandwiches, and pastries. Their drink menu includes classic Argonaut drinks, like the Hercules, house coffee with espresso shots, the golden fleece, a honey lavender latte, frappes, smoothies, and a number of specialty drinks.
Argonaut first opened in 2019 inside of Tallahassee Orthopedic Center located at 3334 Capital Medical Blvd #400 by founder, Jason MacArthur. Jeri’s Midtown Cafe opened in 2019 in replacement of Paisley Cafe. Midtown Reader opened in 2016 and is the city’s only general-subject, independent bookstore selling new books.
